This picture was sent in as part of the PPP project, but I think I’ll post it in the Art Gallery – What do you think?

This picture was sent in by “Anonymous”.  It was not his first picture.   His first pictures were for the PPP project and they were these:

I thought they were interesting, yet what was more interesting was what he wrote:

“I have always considered the penis as an art form. I have spent some time attempting to show the penis as a beautiful and powerful image through my own photography. I have attached a couple of images for you, I hope you consider them to be suitable for your page. I would love to hear any feedback you have.”

We began writing back and forth, and he began experimenting with new photographs.  One was very interesting and thought provoking but since it had his face in it and he  wishes to remain anonymous it will not be posted.   This one however will be posted in the Gallery page, as I think it a very interesting piece of art not only for the work itself but the motivation behind it.  As “Anonymous” wrote to me:
“Although they are still very much a celebration of male sexuality and blatantly display the penis, I think that the composition is much better. These images to me represent a general glorification of the male nude which I feel is somewhat repressed in our society. It is so easy to access images of female nudes (which I also like very much) but I think it is a shame that the male form (especially aroused) is somewhat overlooked as a none attractive proposition. As a 30+ male, I have been interested in both the female and male form and whilst I would admit that the female nude by default can look more attractive than the male, I do think that the male body captured naked and artistically is quite a wonderful thing.”

i wholeheartedly agree that the male nude is under appreciated. i also get very annoyed that and one who appreciates the male nude as art or erotica is automatically labelled as homosexual.
it is high time that such attitudes were openly ridiculed and the male body seen for what it is; a wonder of the natural world.

Thank you for your comment. I think part of this whole project is a way for me personally to feel comfortable with viewing the male penis without attaching socially preconceived notions.

I agree with gawper, it is high time that the male form is recognised in its entirety as an art form. The penis is a fascinating and wonderful thing. There is still far too much in the way of taboo surrounding the penis and the fact that it is exposed, especially erect. Although there are many websites where you can see images of the erect penis, most of them are only catering for the need for people to fulfill their sexual needs. Whilst I understand that, I do think it is important that the penis should be seen as an artistic entity. If there were more people out there able to access penis art, I think it can only do us all good, as it can be appreciated for what it is, whether that be sexual, artistic, educational or whatever. I for one would be happy to display more penis art but sadly I can only use the medium of photography. On a completely selfish level, I would love to see the penis rendered further in properly artistic mediums, painted, drawn, sculpted etc. Each penis is special, individual and usually under appreciated by its owner and others…as you may have guessed, I feel rather strongly about the subject and have contributed the above images.

Thank you Ross for sharing your thoughts. That is the reason that I created this web page. I am an artist who sculpts penises as one of the main icons in my work. I feel it is time we faced this taboo head on. I too think its time to address the other “powers” or meanings of the penis other than simply as a sexual object (though this too should be addressed).

I am straight and I can appreciate male nudes and penises and use them in my art.

I am straight too, but there is something fascinating about the penis. Whilst the female form is sensual and curvaceous, there is something far more brutal about the naked male, especially aroused. It’s not surprising that comparisons have been drawn liking the erect penis to some kind of weapon. I will have to check out your work, Mark. Maybe you could use me in your art!
